我曾今到不少学校看早读，发现学生都不“读”书。原本是“读”书时间，教室里、学校里却很安静。细看后发现，学校给各学科都安排了早读，任教老师要到教室值班。当然，数、理、化等学科老师是不需要学生朗读的，但是，语文、英语学科老师不让学生在早读时朗读，就让人想不通了。想不通的还有，那就是人们有时很容易把最简单的，又是最根本的东西丢掉。

中国的中小学校里，几乎每天都给学生安排了朗读时间，有的把它叫做早读，有的把它叫做晨读。而这“早读”、“晨读”里的“读”，不应是广义的读（即用不同的读书方法来学习），而是多指狭义的读，即要出声读书。这样安排，早读应当适宜安排给语言类学科。把早读安排给语文和英语，应该说它是不会影响学生对其它学科的学习和学生成长的，更何况语文学科的工具性又最强，英语又最需要学生张口，最需要学生出声。问题是现在有些学校，早读竟被各学科“瓜分”了，有不少学校，就算早读只安排给语文和英语学科，但那“朗朗的读书声”也确实很难听到。
